JakartHerald.com - Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah, set a new goal-scoring record in a 3-4 defeat to Manchester United (MU) in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (17/03/2024).
Despite taking the lead twice, Jurgen Klopp's team had to accept a painful defeat at Old Trafford.
After falling behind in the 10th minute, The Reds managed to score two quick goals to turn the tables and take a 2-1 lead in the first half.
Alexis Mac Allister scored in the 44th minute, before Salah successfully put the ball in the net following a rebound from Andre Onana.
The score of 2-1 almost held until the end for a Liverpool victory. However, three minutes before full time, Anthony managed to equalize the score to 2-2, taking the match into extra time.
In the first period of extra time, Harvey Elliott scored a goal to put Liverpool ahead again. However, The Reds' hope of winning their second FA Cup under Klopp was dashed by goals from Marcus Rashford and Ahmad Diallo in the 121st minute.
Despite the disappointing result for The Reds, Mohamed Salah still managed to make history. He became the first player to score in five consecutive away games at Old Trafford.
The History of Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian player started this goal-scoring streak with two goals in a 2-3 FA Cup fourth round defeat in January 2021. He then contributed a goal in a Premier League match in May of that season.
Salah continued this trend by scoring one of his three Premier League hat tricks in a 5-0 win against The Red Devils in October 2021. He also contributed a goal in a 1-2 defeat in August 2022.
When Liverpool Need to Win
After making this history, Salah had the opportunity to continue his goal-scoring streak when The Reds visited Old Trafford in a Premier League match on Sunday (7/4/2024).
The Egyptian striker seemed determined to be even more ruthless as Liverpool needed a win and goal productivity to overtake Arsenal at the top.
Salah has scored a total of 13 goals in 14 matches against his eternal rivals, Manchester United. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, no other player has scored more goals against top teams than Salah.
So far, the Egyptian national team player has scored 21 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions in the 2023-24 season.
After being left out of the Egypt squad during the international break due to injury concerns, Salah now has enough time to prepare for Liverpool's match against Brighton on Sunday (31/3/2024).
