Indonesia only produces 200 units of NATO standard Tiger tanks, this country is scrambling to get in line

JakartaHerald.com - The Indonesian-built Harimau tank has a bright future in Southeast Asia. Many countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, require the medium tank Harimau due to their geographic conditions.

The Indonesian military needs the Harimau tank as it can engage in combat in forests, coastal areas, and urban warfare. The arrival of the Harimau tank is eagerly anticipated by the Indonesian public, and finally, 10 units have been delivered to users a few days ago.

This demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to developing the Harimau tank project until it reaches a point where it can be exported to other countries.

Indonesia requires hundreds of Harimau tanks to replace the AMX-13. This medium tank will enable the Indonesian military to implement modern warfare strategies.

The Harimau tank is an advanced piece of equipment designed for modern warfare, where it will be integrated into Network Centric Warfare in the future. By being part of Network Centric Warfare, the Harimau tank will be able to collaborate with other military equipment such as fighter jets and warships on the battlefield.

Recently, the Indonesian National Army plans to enhance its armoured vehicle capabilities by including surveillance drones to adapt to the demands of combat operations.

Producing a medium tank like the Harimau is not an easy task, but despite the collaboration with FNSS Turkey, Indonesia should be proud as the Harimau tank will soon be entirely produced domestically. PT Pindad's innovation has made Indonesia the third country in the world capable of producing a similar medium tank, aligning with Japan and Poland.

Indonesia is also producing its first NATO-compliant military equipment in the form of the Harimau tank. Meeting NATO standards ensures that military equipment is effective in combat situations.

With Turkey being a NATO member, they understand the importance of meeting NATO standards as one of the best military vehicle and armour companies in the world. FNSS's products are used in various NATO countries, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.

The future looks promising for the Harimau tank as not only are domestic sales on the rise, but there is also a waiting export market. The loyal customer of Indonesian military equipment, the Philippines, is reportedly ready to purchase the Harimau tank.

Indonesia's plan to produce 200 units of the Harimau tank shows the potential for growth in the market. PT Pindad claims that they can produce up to 80 medium tanks per year, indicating that the Indonesian National Army may deploy more than 200 Harimau tanks by 2025.

As state-owned companies in Indonesia show interest in exports, the Philippines is seen as a comfortable market due to its size and proximity.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has been a loyal supporter of Indonesian military products. In conclusion, the Harimau tank holds great promise for Indonesia's military industry, with opportunities for both domestic and international sales. The professional tone reflects the importance of these developments in strengthening Indonesia's military capabilities and enhancing their presence in the global defence market.
